Michaela Joysey

Fine Artist, Painter

I work in oils and my main focus is portraits. I first started painting portraits during my fine art degree at Staffordshire University. I always make my own canvases from scratch as I believe this is an important part of the process in the making of a painting. My portraits are generally in black and white although I have previously worked in colour and plan a return to colour portraits in the near future. I paint from photographs and sometimes manipulate the images digitally to enhance the contrast before starting painting.

In between portraits I turn my attention to painting flowers, combining my love of painting with my interest in gardening. The flowers are painted in colour and when working in colour I never use black as it can dull and flatten the colours.
