'Appearance'

The mirror is seen as a symbol of vanity. My large handmirrors have been made in reflection to this obsessive nature in society. The images within the handmirrors are burnt into the wood by hand and are taken from a brooch narrative designed as part of a series for my wooden jewellery brand, ’Lady Coppice’. 

This image depicts a woman at the beginning of her obsession with her appearance. At some point in most women's lives they take a step back and judge themselves. For a majority this is something which they do every day.

The piece measures 75cm in height and its width is 33.5cm. It's depth is 1.8cm and is made from Beech wood, which, after the image and details has been applied with a wood burning pen, has been evenly sprayed with a light varnish to bring out the grain of the wood more and for it's protection against dirty marks and finger prints.
