Emily Jane Cooper

Painting to me is a physical and sculptural activity, involving a fusion of body, mind and process. I work with raw pigments and with large scales to impact the viewer and invite relationships with my experiences through the creation of the work, as well as the experiences which inspired it. Forms relate directly to colour and vice versa. Mechanisms, conduits and illusionistic spaces form a cyclical dialogue meshed with anachronistic ideals. Originally from Yorkshire, I utilize past and current experiences of London and abroad through the exploration of diverse artistic and architectural languages to form my direct expression.
