Chris Ilankovan

Fine Artist

Contact:          07734682510

           chrisilankovan@hotmail.com

Based in London, UK

Ilankovan’s work looks to reveal implicit social structures and hidden power relations through the creation of a visual narrative rooted in personal cultural references. The artist's Sri Lankan heritage provides a strong foothold for works based on domestic and mundane situations. These suggest heavier socio-political discrepancies that exist within the caste system in Southern Asia. Serial repetition of a warped order recurs throughout his practice with the use of materials and specific components appearing in several pieces.  Motifs are duplicated through such processes as scanning, photocopying and mark-making. Drawing is integral to and immediate in Ilankovan's art, giving scope to record, narrate and reference. It proposes a primitive counting process which, rather than amounting to a quantative figure, evokes an impression of history.
