I hold in my mind a photograph by the artist Nan Goldin as the starting point of my artistic career. The photograph literally stopped me in my tracks, it made me want to produce work that could create the same feeling in others.
A lot of my projects revolve around themes of memory and experience, of places and journeys. I work predominantly with photography in ways that push the ideals of what is often considered to be a straight down the line artistic medium. I have taken elements of what already exist in the form of conceptual landscape art and brought new aspects to them. For example I am interested in playing with the conceptions of artist and audience; I attempt to put the audience into settings the mirror the experience of making the work.
The urge to create work that makes the audience think about what they are seeing as well as what they are part of is what drives my practice.
