Bronwen Dickson

Fine Artist

The longing to return and to escape is the airstrip from which all my work takes off from.
Currently finding myself living in nostalgic times, experiencing a nostalgia that is not my own but rather belongs to another generation.  Living in times of struggle and uncertainty, we leave the murky present and escape into a dazzling imagined past.

The nature of my practice allows me to return to pockets of my personal history and the viewer to momentarily escape, imagine and fill in the fragments of a visual narrative.  “Nostalgia like any form of narrative is always ideological” (Susan Stewart)

Memory does not exist as an autonomous realm; it is sustained and guarded by language, in the record of images, words and sounds.  Memories are the ghostly presence that surround and inhabit our mementoes, always fragmented and fallible.  I take unspoken memories and make them into a visually accessible piece.  The work is often built up by the act of repetition, an act that allows one not to forget if only for a moment.

Recently graduated with a Fine Art Degree from Chelsea College of Art and Design and currently living and working in London.
