I have a First Class Honours Degree in Creative Writing and English Literature, for which I majored in Visual Poetry and Imaginative Practice in Poetic Form, receiving the Course Directors Award of Outstanding Achievement for my work in ‘Deconstructed Expression: communication beyond language’ (i.e the use of Sign Language, Lip Reading, Brail, Makaton and Morse code), upon completion of my undergraduate studies. I then went on to study Writing: Imaginative Practice at Masters level where I continued to explore multi-medium expressions of communication as well as completing major projects in writing for the stage, scriptwriting and fiction. During this time I began work exploring writing; beyond text, looking at the impact of environment; community and social placement on the written and spoken word. Taking lead from ‘Post-Structuralism’ and ‘Reader Response’ theory to transcend traditional literary form in an attempt to demonstrate the relationship between expressed language; the spoken and written word and emotional and sensory representations, combining documentation/literature/poetry/story-telling/dialogue and communication with multi-medium and multi-sensory, public and private and active and inactive form, completing projects involving film; installation, photography, travel, dance and performance.
