ARTIST STATEMENT
My artwork often takes on a critical view of political, cultural and social issues.I don’t set out to produce art about certain subjects, but ideas sometimes evolve into more thought provoking ideas that I build upon. I deconstruct an Idea to generate visual signs arranged into new conceptually layered pieces. None of it was intentional but evolved and developed. And the way I want to portray a piece of work, determines the forms of the work and the materials used. My influences are many- what I see, experience and especially sense. Street art and pop art also have a massive influence on my work. I enjoy the fact that there is no right or wrong to what people think of my art. Hopefully, it can speak for itself and that each person viewing it can take away something different from it.
Background and Experience
My interest in art started from an early age. Being dyslexic, I always found it easier to express in pictures rather than words. For secondary school, I attended Chestnut Grove School, South London by their art route where I attained GCSE and A level in art.
On leaving school,I was fortunate to win a full scholarship to Blake College in Central London where I achieved a BTEC foundation pass with honours.
I spent a year doing a Sculpture degree course in Manchester but found it wasn’t for me so changed to a Fine Art Degree course at Wimbledon College University of the Arts, London.
I have just finished this course and attained a BA(Hons) Degree in Fine Art Painting.
I now look forward to the future as an artist.
