British-Colombian embroidery illustrator and artist Monique Jivram, creates work that is vibrant, lively and heavily influenced by her Latin American ancestry. Monique takes the unique and highly labour intensive approach of mixing embroidery with drawings, creating a complex and strong signature style. Monique mixes and collages images creating work that is fresh and intensely striking.
The work is a refreshing break from the standard, moving away from the expectations of traditional embroidery whilst maintaining an unswerving attention to detail. It displays an obvious fascination with strong linear shapes and colour.
Her work gains inspiration from overheard conversations. She relies heavily on the concept of schemas and mnemonics beginning each piece by mapping out images that support and develop her starting text
