Simon Currell
Fine Artist, Graphic Designer, Digital Artist, Photographer, Photoshop Expert
Most of my artwork stems from time spent in Higher education. After studying a BA (Hons) degree in Fine Art (2:1) at Northampton University, I completed a Masters in Fine Art at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design before Completing a Doctorate Degree in Fine Art at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Australia. Currently I am studying a Diploma in Teaching in the Life-Long Sector at the East London College, and am hoping to embark in a career teaching in Higher Education. Additionally I provide Photoshop tuition for individuals and small groups, undertake graphic design projects and will work on privately commissioned Photoshop projects, for businesses or individuals. I also offer assistance in completing art dissertations, organising art portfolios and writing artists statements. Contact me for more details.
Originally from a sculptural background, I have been developing my work in a digital format over the past several years, whilst undertaking private commissions. I am principally interested in concepts surrounding formalism, repetition, homogeneity and kitsch. It is my belief that artistic expression can be inspired by constraint, drudgery and the banal. All of my artworks are for sale and are available in various dimensions, some of the artworks are in large format as they contain lots of detail which may not be visable on the images contained in this profile. To keep the cost down to a minimum I only sell the photographic prints and will advise you on how to frame the prints to their best advantage. Please contact me for more information or if you have any questions.
My recent artwork has been motivated by over twelve years experience in employment as a telephone sales representative and is inspired by a perception of how corporate space and employees have become commoditized within call centre workplaces. It is a body of work that investigates the culture of the contemporary call centre and navigates the processes of workplace assimilation and appropriation. The other artworks displayed here are from my Masters project - a project where I manipulated imagery sourced entirely from Jehovah Witness magazines.
I have exhibited at various shows over the past 8 years and am open to offers for upcoming exhibitions or other ways to promote my work.
