Samantha Jones
Fine Artist
This body of work deals with an interpretation of the human body. The practice is based around transportation into an alternative visual realm. I am particularly interested in the imaginary and through the process of drawing am able to convey this. The drawings become very repetitive highlighting the notion of spontaneity and the obsessive. The practice mainly works with materials that contain a direct resemblance to the body, skin. The use of animal skin also provides a shelter for what is internally beyond. The vein like imagery grows, spreading throughout the entirety of the leather.
Research into the Plains Indian, who used skins and hides to create meticulously, detailed pieces that were not only decorative but also sacred, is of particular influence to the practice as is the work of the Surrealists and Outsider Art.
I have recently completed a BA (Hons) Fine Art course at Central Saint Martin’s college of Art and Design.
